Swooping Hawks


I'll get straight to the point. Swooping hawks are my favourite troop type, they are highly mobile and can take on all sorts of other troops(orks, IG, dark eldar). But I don't like how games workshop have changed them in 3rd ed, I'm sure it's just a simplfied set of rules until the eldar codex is released but just in case here are the rules I use for Swooping hawks.




Hawk Wings

Swooping Hawk wings are a special form of jump pack used exclusively by Eldar Swooping Hawk Aspect Warriors. In addition to an anti-gravity lifter and Jet propulsion motors the harness has large wings which allow the user to glide longer distances and even soar high into the air.
Hawk Wing movement
Swooping hawks can move up to 12" during their movement phase. A Swooping Hawk may charge 6" in the assault phase if it is within 6" of the enemy. Swooping Hawks ignore the effects of terrain unless they move in it. If a Swooping Hawk enters difficult terrain roll a d6. On a 2-6 the Hawk lands safely, on a 1 the model crashes and is killed. No armour save is allowed.

Hawks in Assaults
Hawks fight in close combat just like other troops but because of their great speed Hawks can advance 3d6" after an assault and fall back 3d6".

Grav-boost
Swooping Hawks can decide to use a grav-boost at the start of their movement phase, if it is used by a model in a unit then all Hawks in that unit must use it as well. The Hawk feeds all the suits power into horizontal thrust and speeds forward. This is represented by the Hawk doubling it's move 12" ie: 24" during the movement phase. While the Hawk is traveling a this speed he/she appears to be a blur to troops on the ground, this gives the Hawks a 4+ invulnerable cover save taken instead of their normal armour save. This save lasts until the start of their next turn. The penalty for this move is that the Hawks can't fire any of their weapons, this includes dropping grenades from their grenade packs.



Hawk Grenade Packs


Targeting
The Hawk grenade pack may be used only if the Swooping Hawk passed over any enemy models. Draw a straight line from the Hawks starting position to his final position, any enemy models partially on the line can be targeted.

Dropping grenades
Roll to hit as normal if the target is hit work out damage as normal using the Grenade Packs stats below. The Hawk may choose which grenade to use.
